Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to another episode of Cheffin It: Greek Edition. I'll admit I had a hard time with this one. I was quite busy herding young children around while simultaneously trying to get their performance of Alice in Wonderland ready! So naturally, because kids are exhausting, when I arrived home each day I was ready to crash. Naps in the afternoon are the best, are they not?
Anyway, I digress. Greek Week! I did try some traditional Greek dishes this week though I must admit, my taste buds haven't fully found the love for Greek flavors. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Greece. When I have a bad day, I still imagine myself floating down the Saronic Gulf, diving off the cliffs of Hydra, riding Donkeys through narrow streets of white houses with sea blue doors... It sounds stereotypical but Greece really is picturesque. In fact, next to England, Greece could possibly be one of my favorite places!
Anyways, what I do love about doing this personal challenge is that I'm learning which ingredients are used in which country's cooking.
Mexico: Cilantro, lime, jalapeno, tomato
France: Parsley, Lemon, Creams and BUTTER
Greece: Parsley, Oregano, Olive Oil, and Olives
So, my favorite recipe I made this week was the Chicken Souvlaki. The chicken wasn't the best part. It was the sauces! Oh my god, the sauces! Tzatziki Sauce and a Tomato and Cucumber relish. De-lish-ous. In fact, I could have skipped the chicken all together! Partially because I tried to cook it on the grill pan and it didn't cook evenly so I put it in the oven and then I overcooked it and it was chewy as hell.
Anyways, if you want to try the Chicken Souvlaki, here's the link to the recipe I used.
